Luxury Towels - FAQs
Luxury and eco-friendly, our towels combine both of the best worlds. Here's what you need to know to keep them looking fresh, clean and planet-conscious green.
How big is a bath towel?
Standard bath towel sizes in the UK are approximately 70 cm x 120 – 140 cm. Our own eco towels come in two different sizes:
Organic cotton: 70 x 125cm (28 x 49") approximately.
Bamboo: 70 x 130cm (28 x 51") approximately.
We also offer three other size towels in these collections: face cloths, hand towels and bath sheets, covering all your bathroom needs.
How often should you wash a bath towel?
The rule of thumb is to wash them every 3 days, or 3 to 4 uses – that also goes for organic cotton fabric. Bamboo towels can be washed a bit less frequently, thanks to the natural antibacterial properties of bamboo viscose.
How many towels in a set?
A regular towel set generally includes anywhere from 3 to 6 towels. In our offer, you’ll find a full towel bale set of 5, which features a bath sheet, bath towel, hand towel and two face cloths. All stunningly beautiful, ultra soft and sustainable.
Is bamboo viscose better than cotton?
We’ll let you decide for yourself but bamboo is more absorbent and breathable, softer, more resistant to piling and stretching, and has antimicrobial and hypoallergenic properties.
Is bamboo viscose eco friendly?
Yes, bamboo itself is a highly sustainable and renewable resource. It grows quickly, requires minimal water, and does not need pesticides or fertilizers.
Does organic cotton shrink more than regular cotton?
Organic cotton and cotton –they both may shrink when exposed to very high temperatures, which is why tumble dryers are not the optimal choice in this case. To maintain the softness and durability of organic cotton towels, it's important to follow some specific care instructions:
- Wash in cold or warm water: Use a gentle cycle and avoid hot water, which can break down the fibres.
- Use mild detergent: Avoid bleach and fabric softeners, as they can damage the natural fibres and reduce the towel's absorbency.
- Air dry where possible: While you can tumble dry on a low setting, air drying is gentler and helps maintain the towel's softness and longevity.
How does organic cotton help the environment?
Organic cotton benefits the environment by eliminating harmful chemicals, which reduces pollution and promotes healthier ecosystems. It supports soil health through sustainable farming practices, enhancing fertility and structure while conserving water by relying more on rainwater.
The cultivation of organic cotton also lowers greenhouse gas emissions, partly due to less energy-intensive methods and the natural carbon sequestration in the soil.
Additionally, organic farming practices preserve biodiversity by supporting local ecosystems and protecting pollinators, while also creating safer conditions for farmers by reducing their exposure to toxic substances.
By supporting organic cotton, consumers can contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly textile industry, helping to preserve ecosystems and reduce the overall environmental impact of cotton production.
How can I be a better cotton shopper?
With so much room for confusion, consumers can be left feeling disempowered and uncertain. But you can use some simple, proven strategies when it comes to buying and caring for cotton clothing.
Look for the right labels
If you’re buying organic cotton, make sure your Organic cotton towel has GOTS certification. This is important because it ensures that organic textiles are produced sustainably and ethically throughout the entire supply chain.
It protects the environment by prohibiting harmful chemicals, enforces fair labour practices, and provides consumers with trustworthy, clearly labelled products. As a globally recognized standard, GOTS unifies and standardizes organic textile production, fostering consumer confidence in organic claims.
How much water does organic cotton use?
It uses around 90% less water than regular cotton. To put it into perspective – you need around 240 litres of water to make a single organic cotton T-shirt, whereas for cotton it’s 2,700 litres.
Organic cotton farming generally uses less water than conventional cotton farming. This is because organic farming practices focus on improving soil health, which enhances the soil's ability to retain water.
Additionally, organic cotton is often grown in rain-fed areas, reducing the need for irrigation. In contrast, conventional cotton farming typically relies more heavily on irrigation, leading to higher overall water consumption.
How to tell if a towel is good quality?
The first thing is obviously the material - if it's natural, and certified, this is already a very good sign.
It may go without saying, but a quality towel should feel soft to the touch so that it doesn’t irritate the skin. Good quality towels should also absorb water quickly, and shouldn’t feel wet on the skin when being used.
Another aspect to consider is weight. A good towel should feel quite heavy and substantial. This is known as GSM (grams per square metre), and the higher count usually indicates it's more absorbent.
We believe that the ideal weight for towels falls somewhere between 550-650GSM. They provide a good balance as they tend to hold more water and have greater absorption potential. Lower GSM towels will feel wet quickly as they hold less water, and whilst heavier towels may absorb more water, they tend to take far longer to dry.
