How to clean a diatomite mat?
In the box you’ll receive a small sheet of delicate p320 sandpaper. Regularly scrub the surface layer to remove any stains and improve the porosity & absorbency.
Can I use it with underfloor heating?
Yes, underfloor heating will not affect the quality or performance of our diatomite bath mat.
Is it proven to be safe for use?
Absolutely! Here at Misona we want to provide you with peace of mind that our diatomite mat is perfectly fit for purpose. Our bath mat has been tested and is asbestos free! View our lab results here.
Is this kind of stone bath mat heavy?
Now we do realise that stone immediately makes everyone think of some serious weight, but in reality – it’s surprisingly light. The bath mat itself weighs approximately 2kg. It’s one of the many incredible properties of diatomite since it’s composed of fossilized remains of single-celled algae. You can easily move these bath mats around whenever you need to.
Does it feel cold against your feet?
The short answer is no – this kind of absorbent bath mat probably feels more like wood than actual stone.
How absorbent is it?
This product is often referred to as a quick dry bath mat – and it definitely earns its name. Thanks to the high porosity of diatomite, it can easily soak up all the water within a minute.
Does it stain easily?
This shouldn’t happen during normal use as any water will be completely absorbed leaving no marks behind. If somehow you do notice any marks or stains, or perhaps spill other substances on the surface, just use the complementary piece of sandpaper to scrub it away.
How is this stone bath mat eco-friendly?
The shortest answer is – because it’s made from a sustainable and naturally occurring material known as diatomite that is sourced using responsible methods. It’s also incredibly versatile, which is why it’s used in many different products and solutions, and circular, which means it can be reused or repurposed, making it a truly green choice. We’ve talked so much about the unique properties and versatility of the main ingredient of our flagship absorbent bath mat range you’re probably tired of reading about it at this point. But it shows even more value when we compare it to traditional materials – like cotton, microfibre or even worse, synthetic materials, the production of which takes a big environmental toll and requires significant resources.
Are they available in different sizes?
Our fast absorbing bath mat range is only available in one size, but we tried our best to make it perfect for any space. It measures 39 x 60 cm with a height of approximately 1 cm. Big enough to comfortably stand on and use and slim enough to effortlessly slip under most doors in case you don’t have all that much room.
Where is your diatomite bath mat range manufactured?
Our suppliers are all around the world – Portugal, Turkey, India and more.
What can I do if the colour I like is out of stock?
We do our best to keep our stock and supply chains working as smoothly as possible so that you can enjoy all of your favourite products. Unfortunately, occasionally we run out, and some colour options in our stone bath mat range may not be available at a given point in time. In that case, please contact us at store@misona.co.uk to find out when it becomes available again.
If an item I like is unavailable, can I pre-order it?
Not at present; pre-orders are not an option.
What environmental standards do you follow?
You can rest assured we don’t just talk the talk, but walk the walk and do our best to lead by example. All the factories we work with strictly follow the rules and meet the requirements of the Ethical Trade Initiative (ETI). On top of that, the fabrics we use are OEKO-TEX certified, which means that no harmful chemicals or dyes are used during the production process.
How is it possible that stone absorbs water?
There’s a good reason for it –it’s no ordinary stone. We’re not talking about some pebbles in the river, although it is found in aquatic environments. This is diatomite, a type of soft rock with high silica content, which makes it very porous and in turn highly absorbent. Apart from the name and categorisation, it doesn’t really have that much in common with what we normally think about stone.
What if I don't like it? What's your return policy?
If for whatever reason you’re not happy with your purchase, you have 30 days to return it.
If they can't be machine washed, won't they smell?
That most certainly will not be the case and it’s all thanks to the natural anti-mould and anti-odour properties of diatomite. This material itself features an autonomous self-cleaning system – all on its own.
Should I use detergents to clean them?
That’s not recommended, putting the sandpaper you get with your order free of charge into good use every now and then should be more than enough to keep your bath mat in top shape.
Is this stone bath mat a good fit for people suffering from allergies?
Yes, the anti-bacterial and odour-free nature of these mats makes them a perfect choice for anyone who has to deal with allergies without running any risk of unwelcome surprises and less-than-desirable reactions. In fact. it’s hard to find a better one.
The big question
What is Diatomite?
Originating from the Cretaceous Period, Diatomaceous Earth inhabits oceans and lakes. Found in these waters are fossilised remains of tiny, aquatic organisms, called diatoms.
Our diatomaceous earth mat is constructed through the process of diatom formation, preservation, and sedimentation, transforming a powdery substance into a solid, durable bath mat.
One characteristic of Diatomite is it's high porosity, making it the perfect addition to soak up moisture from a bathroom, as its highly absorbent composition will leave your feet dry in seconds.
Step off from the magic mat and watch your footprints disappear in front of your eyes - this instant dry bath mat is a must have in any home.
How to clean diatomite?
Easy to care for
Saving you money year after year, this quick dry bath mat doesn't require to be washed in the washing machine like 'traditional' bathmats.
Should you have any stains after use, simply sand paper the mat to remove any stains. We provide a small sheet of sand paper in every box. Sanding off the top layer every so often can also ensure the Diatomite continues to perform to the best of it's absorbent ability.
This method of cleaning, saves you money, water and electricity, whilst also eliminating the effects of leaving a carbon footprint.
Traditional plush mats, often carry microfibres (which are tiny micro-plastics) which cause drastic effects to our oceans. Switching to a sustainable homeware like a Diatomite Bath Mat will prevent any destruction to our already suffering waterways.
BENEFITTING YOU & THE PLANET
The eco-friendly quick dry bath mat
It may be time to wave goodbye to your plush bathmat and welcome our ground-breaking and innovative diatomaceous earth mat, as it is a great sustainable switch for you and the environment.
Made from the naturally sourced, soft, sedimentary rock, this mat doesn't require the use of any harmful chemicals or pesticides, unlike the conventional material bathmat.
Chemicals used when growing materials such as cotton, causes irreversible effects to the soils, wildlife and waters. The production of Earthstone doesn't leave any sign of negative impact on the Planet.
Better still, your bathroom will be kept free from germs as the Diatomite's natural properties include being anti-bacterial, anti-mould and odour free; making your Bathroom the safe and relaxing sanctuary it should be.
DURABILITY & AFFORDABILITY
Stone bath mat
Saving you money year after year, this quick dry bath mat doesn't require to be washed in the washing machine like 'traditional' bathmats.
Even though our fast absorbing bath mat is technically made of stone, it doesn’t feel like it at all. Thanks to the unique properties of diatomite, we’ve managed to create a product that’s deceivingly light and yet, extremely durable – a truly sustainable bath mat that is built to last.
With a modern design and minimalist, versatile colour options, it will fit and complement any bathroom space perfectly, giving it a unique finishing touch. This is the stylish piece of homeware you’ve been looking for.
A bargain like this is hard to beat. The long-lasting durability it offers, coupled with an affordable price, makes it the ultimate cost-effective solution in the world of bath mats. And with the money you’ll also be saving from not having to machine wash this bath mat, it really is a no-brainer.
FULL-CIRCLE SUSTAINABILITY
Green Circularity with Diatomite Bath Mat
Everything has to come full circle – it rings true in life and sustainability. Despite many efforts, it’s hard to find truly sustainable and circular material. There are many variables and seemingly insignificant factors that can make any green resources go totally against the idea of sustainability.
But not diatomaceous earth. As long as you’ll definitely get to enjoy all the wonderful qualities and properties of our absorbent bath mat range, there’s no escaping the passing of time and its trusty companion – the wear and tear. It doesn’t mean this sometimes million-year-long journey of diatomite has to end there.
Its unbelievable adventure began long before we knew it even existed. In the end, good things take time. Formed from single-cell algae known as diatoms, it’s been accumulated in aquatic environments for ages to finally get sourced using responsible practices to end up in your bathroom as the new standard in the world of bath mats. A better, fully eco-friendly one.
When its time comes, it can still work its wonders – but, like a truly sustainable and circular material, it is, in a different form. It can be ground back to powder and used in plants to improve water retention, serving yet another purpose and helping create and sustain more life.
SAVINGS & SAFETY
Sustainable Essential
There’s more to our top-notch stone bath mat collection than meets the eye. It may be a little hard to believe judging just by how stylish they are, but the looks are not the main concern here – it’s functionality.
And it comes in different shapes and forms. By now, you probably know all about the unique properties of diatomite and everything it has to offer. Making all the water disappear within seconds is just one of them.
The fact that this bath mat dries quickly doesn’t tell the whole story either. With all the slippery surfaces and water, all mats were designed for a simple reason, and it’s safety. This is precisely the reason why every box of our eco-friendly goodness comes with a solid non-slip backing to keep your feet – and the rest of your body - planted firmly and safely in place.
All that while saving you the headache (and costs) of machine washing and the risk of destroying the latex backing. For your brand-new sustainable diatomite bath mat, all you need is to sand it every now and then to keep any stains away.
GREEN & CLEAN
Key to Hygienic and Germ-Free Bathroom
The Misona instant dry bath mat doesn’t just dry your feet and keep your bathroom floors safe and dry – it actually actively helps you clean. How is that possible?
Traditional mats are essentially nothing more but rugs, and with the amount of water bathroom spaces have to deal with on a daily basis, keeping up is quite a challenge – it doesn’t really matter how absorbent a material is. They all get soggy and soaking wet, often even before your own feet are dry.
Unfortunately, this creates perfect conditions to grow various types of germs, fungi and bacteria. You may not see them, but you’ll definitely smell them at some point.
Diatomite takes it all upon itself, fighting off the unpleasant odour, the breeding bacteria and the unappealing soggy looks using its natural properties. A truly marvellous substance.
There’s one more thing you won’t have to worry about. Since machine washing or the use of detergent isn’t part of the equation, there’s no risk of fading or going off-colour, which is normally inevitable with traditional mats.
This is not a bath mat reimagined – it’s a bath mat reinvented.
